  • This is starting **** me off

At 270 hours my GP1200 detonated due to creased fuel pump check valves.
Put on a new SBT top end and rebuilt the carbs including new throttle shafts.
Ran like a champ for 30 hours. Yesterday anything over half throttle and the
RPM's would drop. Took carbs apart and the check valves are creased again What going on here?

    I feel your pain...

Seriously, I agree with you and don't understand how Mikuni gets away with it. TS says that carbs have wear parts with a limited life, but I think they should last longer than 30 hours. What brand of carb kit did you use?

THey were Mikuni kits. I've heard this creasing problem is unique to Yamaha
triples and caused by using the choke to much, or liquid in the case etc.
I've studied the Mikuni flow diagram and I can't see how the the choke could
affect the valves. It also looks to me like the pump diaphram would take the blow from too much pressure from the case due to liquid. I was hoping John
Kubiak, Bill Oneill, Or TS would have some insight.

By the way did you get your pump duct repaired?

I searched under every phrase I could think of and couldn't find anything.

I seen to remember your post about it but now that I need it I can't find it :(

get rid of your cranking at startup and you get rid of 90% of creasing.

lose the choke and put a primer kit in.
