Re: 02 STX-R No Compression on Cyl 2 - Options?

ok, I removed the cylinder and the news isn't good.:emoticonb The piston skirt has a hole and it appears that debris has made it into the crankcase. I even found a piece of piston ring in one of the reed valves. There are some metal shavings stuck to the bottom of the rod. (see pictures) Does this mean that I need a new engine or can the crankcase/crank be cleaned and a new cylinder/piston/head installed?

    Thanks,

Is it possible to just by a new crank from SBT for $475, disassemble and clean the crankcase, install the new crank. Then buy a used stock cylinder and put a new piston, rings in it? That would total around $1100 versus $1700 for a SBT standard engine or $2000 for a premium. What are the pros and cons?

Yes you could certainly do that - either way - that's a new engine :)

            Hey Bryan,

If I want to send the core first for a Premium engine, what is the procedure? Do I need to get some type of number from SBT to put on the box first? How does the freight cost work? If I pay freight to ship the core to you first do I still pay the $140 to get the rebuilt sent to me since that usually covers shipping both ways?

            Thanks,
            Bobby C.
