  • Performance mods for 2003 SUV1200

Currently own an 03 SUV1200 and looking at some possible performance modifications. Primary purpose of boat (hard to call this craft a ski) is for skiing. Boat has plenty of top end - approx. 56-58 mph on the dream-o-meter but slowly losing power on bottom end (increasingly becoming harder to pull my bottom end out of the water on 2 skis - 6'7", 250lbs). I am curious as to the recommended performance mods that can be performed on this boat. I've been looking at the Pro-Tec Ride Plate and Moflow intake grate along with a Solas Concord YF-CD 12/18 Impeller. I've inspected the pump for damage as described in the Technical Articles/FAQ and all appears good with the exception of some small nicks in the impeller blades.

    thanks

Is the engine lagging on the bottom end, or does it rev up and just not pull? Any change like this doesn't mean you need aftermarket parts, it means you have damage that needs to be fixed.

engine lags on bottom end. carb rebuild in order?
note, the loss of low end power was gradual and more apparent in rough water.

Do a compression check. Has it ever siezed? Yes it's very possible the carbs need to be rebuilt, but you need to make sure other things are healthy too/first.

Took some time to respond properly,

          Compression on cold engine is #1 115 #2 117 #3 117
          Impeller-to-housing clearance is 0.011 in.
Water inlet filter clean (no blockage or debris)

seems like carb rebuild in order and inspect / check reed valves?
also, appears that the 03 SUV uses the BN44 and not the SBN carbs - is this correct.

          thx.

BN44 is not a model number. They are SBN carbs. Yes rebuild them.
