  • Converting dual carbs to single

I have a 2002 xl700 w/dual 38mm carbs. I have read where some people convert the dual 38s to 1 44. IMO I cant see how you dont loose performance. Has anyone done this? Is it worth doing? I figure in the winter i am going to have to rebuild the carbs and was wondering if it is worth converting.
    GREAT website. :)
    Thanks

Re: Converting dual carbs to single

The idea behing this is to convert to a single 44 for a rental machine, or for freestyle. For a rental machine, the idea is you would use less gas over the long run, plus you would only have to worry about cleaning/rebuilding one carb at a time. I guess if you run a lot of gas( as I am sure a rental would) thru them it would save money in the loooong run.

As far as freestyle, the idea is to move to a bigger single carb for the best possible low end power.

For basic rec riding on an xl700, I dont think it would be a move I would do.
