  • Please Help 1999 gsx ltd one spark plug fouling and water in hull.

I have a 1999 GSX Ltd 30 hrs on engine.....did a compression test (145PSI) on both cyclinders. One of the spark plugs become really built up with carbon after one tank of gas.....the other is fine.......It starts bogging and eventually has no power (I assume becuase only one cyclinder is firing)....is the one cylinder runing rich? I'm using NGK BR8ES spark plugs.

I am also noticing a lot of more water in my hull when compared to my 1999 GP 1200. The Sea Doo has a bilge pump and it keeps the water at ~3" but if the bilge pump stopped working I think I would be in trouble......Should I be so dependant on the bilge pump or do I have a problem with a seal or something. The GP doesn't have a bilge pump and is generally keeps dry. I am missing one of the two plastic tubes that hang out the back of the jet pump.

    Thanks

check for a brokin engine mount , also check your carbon seal . with one missing tube you could be sucking in water instead of pumping it out with water in the hull you could be getting water in the engine and fouling the plug .

What am I looking for with regards to the carbon seal? Is this the seal between the shaft and hull? Should the carbon seal (with the rubber boot on it) have play with respect to the drive shaft (Perpindicular to the axis). If so how much? I also noticed when I am running it out of the water the carbon seal gets very hot.

      Thanks for your help!!

If you replace the tube in the nozzel, your hull water problem will go away. The carbon seal gets real hot when not cooled by lake water.

1999 GSx's with 30 hours on them don't usually have a big problem with motor mounts and carbon seals, but it doesn't hurt to be checking that stuff now and then anyway. If the seal doesn't leak when the boat is in the water, it works fine. If it leaks, fix it.

I just rechecked the pressure at each cylinder again....I looked at one of the tech reports and noticed I didn't do it exactly right ....One cylinder measured 149-150PSI and the other measured 143-145 (this so happens to be the one that has been fouling). I do run them in saltwater but always flush after riding. What do you think about these #'s? If they are bad how bad is it? How long can I go without rebuilding?

          Thanks,
          Mike

            those are good compression #'s
