  • 97 Wave Raider 700 problem

Just bought a very clean 97 Yamaha Wave Raider 700. Runs very well except that it seems to misfire when trying a full throttle start. It does not sound like a bog and does not happen at any other time. It also feels or sounds as though something is slipping when this happens. Tried new plugs but the problem persists. Any ideas?

Unscrew the boots from the end of the plug wires. Snip the wires back 1/4" and screw the boots back on with new zip-ties.

Tried trimming the spark plug wires back 1/4 inch, but the problem remains. It does seem like an electrical/ignition problem, but could it be the carb? Is it possible that this is cavitation? If so is there any way to avoid this?

check the intake...it can't have anything in it...sometimes fishing line can be wrapped aroung the driveshaft in the intake causing cavitation....if it's cavitating, then the rev limiter is kicking in and causing your missfire....
