    Re: compression 96 GTX

Yes the hose is about 3 inches long and connects to the bottom fitting on each carb.

Dave, that picture is from a 720 engine. But the hose location is the same.

Bill thank you for stearing me in the right direction with the fuel problem sometimes the simple things are the things that get over looked. I have had the filter out a number of times and never saw that the o-ring was missing lets hope this fixes my problem. I will be taking the ski out this weekend and find out.

Alright I got to take the ski out yesterday to try it out. Replacing the missing O-ring in the fuel filter assembly helped out a lot. I can now go WOT the ski tops out at 7000 rpm I replaced the spring in the water regulator that is working fine now. The only problem now is the ski will drop fast in rpms then die once and awhile. It doesnt do it as much since the O-ring was put in. Any ideas where to look? Thank you.

Remove the carbs and clean the internal fuel filters and check the fuel selector valve too while you are at it.

I have cleaned the internal filters I took the selctor apart and cleaned that also is it possible that the selector could leak air? the next thing i am going to do is replace all the fuel lines. I am also going to make sure the fuel pump parts are all put in in the correct order im not sure if the ski would run at all if the fuel pump wasnt installed correctly? Thanks again for all the help.

You took the selector apart and cleaned it? I did not know you could do that. I always just replace them at $15 each.........

                  Re: compression 96 GTX

OK here is what I found I decided to look into the fuel pump one more time. The plastic Diaphragm in the fuel pump looked a little streched out in the round area from the pulse and at one point I may have gotten carb cleaner on it at some point because it was put in new last year so I replased it again and I also found a gasket that looked to be the wrong one because one of the openings looked larger than the opening on the fuel pump so I replaced that one with one that looked like it fit better. Could either one of these two things make the ski die at WOT. Again it goes WOT for a little while before it dies. If there is anything else to check feel free to mention it. Also I am going to replace all the fuel lines soon. Any help is greatly appreciated.

                    Re: compression 96 GTX

Of course if the fuel pump was not assembled correctly, fuel starvation would be an issue, but I have no idea if you had it wrong. Just make sure it is right this time.

A motor that shuts down at WOT from fuel starvation could be siezing, so keep an eye on that compression guage. You might even want to pull the rave valves and look at the side of the pistons for siezure marks.

Things that must be correct to keep the motor from shutting down at WOT are:

The complete fuel system needs to pass a pressure holding test.
The check valves must be working correctly in the fuel system vent hoses.
The fuel strainer oring must be in the top of the fuel strainer bowl.
The fuel selector valve needs to be clean and flowing the full stream of fuel.
The fuel pump must be working correctly.
The fuel filters must be clean inside of both carbs.
The needle valves must be working correctly.
The jets must not be clogged up.

If you have made sure that all of the items on this list are in proper working condition, your motor will not shut down at WOT, due to lack of fuel going to the engine..

How would I do I do a pressure test of he fuel system? thank you again Bill

Pinch off all fuel and vent lines and pump pressure into the tank, as described in the SERVICE MANUAL.

                          Re: compression 96 GTX

Can I pressurize the tank by just pulling off the vent line and connect the pressure tester and presurize the hole fule system that way i can tell if a line is leaking or one of the clamps correct?

Yes if you clamp off the vent line that goes out of the tank and the side of the boat.
