  • 92 SL650? Is this a good ski? or trouble?

    Hey Guys,
I was wondering if anyone either owned an older SL650, or knew about it.

I am hoping to ride in salt water where the water is a bit rougher than a lake or pond, but isn't horrible.

Is this ski a decent ski? or is if full of problems since it is an older model (92)???
Any feedback on this specific ski will be appreicated.

    Thanks

I have two of them they are pretty fun just a few things to change to make them reliable first go to premix and 2 change the fuel pump so it dont lean out the cylinder and burn a hole in the piston. I thought that these things were just a precaution so I never did them but it got me back this year when I had to buy 2 new sbt motors when they both blew It was the front piston on both of them.

About how fast would you say these Ski's go? 40mph?50mph?

Also, how do they ride in the water? Are they really low to the water? how do they handle?

Anyone ride in water that is a bit rougher? Does the hull hold up well in the rougher waters?

      Any info will be great.
PS- Thanks for the heads up on the precautions

Mine are 1992 so there is no spedo over the weekend mine was not going real good do to the carbs need tuned in but I ran next to my boat and it was going 42 mph but who knows how acurate that is. I have heard people say between 45 50 is top speed the rough water I dont know about I live in kansas so its all lake riding for me hope this helps.

P.S do some research on here on some past post in here it helps out alot to see what other people have had troubles with.

IMO, if you're looking for an old Polaris . you should look for something 94 or newer. In 93 , they redesigned the hull and made the intake gullet longer and a little larger. This significantly reduced cavitation. In 94 they put to good pump on there and that really improved the performance. Also by 94, they had most of the bugs worked out of the carberetuion sp!
