  • 96 GTI Bogging

Just cruising along just below full throttle and the engine holds back and then dies like it has run out of fuel. About two or three seconds later it bursts into life and we are off again. This happened about every couple of minutes. Made it back to dry land and took out the fuel filter. It was clean as was the bowl. Checked the plugs and they were in good shape. They only have about 5 hours on them. Checked the oil filter and let some oil drain through. It was clean. Battery is strong and starts easily. Am I missing anything obvious?

change your fuel valve 99% sure your problem will go away, to test the fuel valve pull off the main fuel line from the valve and plug it into your fuel bowl and go for a ride .

Where does the debris go after it leaves the fuel valve, probably right into the fuel filter inside of the carbureator.

i have seen many valves crush them selfs but the carbs are ok . not saying not to clean the carbs i think they should be cleaned once a season myself .

Me too, but it is much cheaper to do both than buy a motor.
