Yes it is a prototype 2006 3D 947 DI, nothing special about that motor.
What is special about the picture is the talents of the guy riding it. He came real close to sticking that backflip !

I don't like the ski, but Visser's got talent throwing that pig like that, for sure. I respect that.

So he didn't actually land the flip?

I heard somewhere that three engines were "consumed" for that photo shoot?

                  Re: Troubleshooter Quiz

No engines were "consumed". They had to pump water out of the motor three times.

Gotcha. How did that happen? Did the hood pop, or just take in water through the seal?

Visser would not use a lanyard. So everytime he dumped it upside down, it sat there running in the water with waves tumbling it over and over.

i thikn it woudl be easier to wear a lanyard than to pump the motor out 3 times.

                            Re: Troubleshooter Quiz

                            A follow up.

After repairing the motor, I accompanied the 3D to the next photo shoot in Morro Bay California. We had some decent waves to jump, but also fairly heavy fog to deal with too, although the photographer said that not having glare is a good thing. They shot photo's for about 2 hours. Two of the best freeriders in the world were also there on their superjets. In fact Taylor had just won the Oceanside ski finals the week before. Kenny, his buddy was riding too. All three riders did some amazing things on their skis. Meanwhile, I chummed up to the harbor patrol to keep them from stopping our photo shoot due to a lack of obtaining a permit. The good news is they asked me for a business card so they could get their skis repaired, AND, they let us finish shooting the photos.

After talking to Jimmy Visser the night before the shoot, I found out that the guy who was from the Sea Doo dealership had him turning the 3D the wrong way when righting it at Oceanside. We did not have one single water flooding at Morro Bay. I also made a longer lanyard so it would stay attached to the lanyard post when doing the tricks. Water Problem solved!

After shooting, we headed back to Los Angeles and then on to the World Finals in Lake Havasu. I delivered the 3D to the Sea Doo booth at the racesite, where they put it on display.

It was a fun and interesting week of playing with the new more powerful 3D.

I think more people should just go ride a 3D. I read alot of opinions about them, but I have to wonder just how many of these guys actually ever rode a 3D, and I know those that have will really find the 947 powered model much more challenging to ride. These things are a blast to ride in at least three of the four positions that are possible. The Kart mode was really fun and different. The moto mode is cool, like an XPL is cool with the spring seat. And standup mode is fun too for those not so athleticly inclined as to be real good on a conviental standup. I never tried the kneeling position.

All in all, I think the 3D makes excellent sense for a good family PWC. Dad, mom and the kids will really enjoy the the four different ways to set up this ski.
The DI engine has excellent accelleration and starts right up, cold, hot or at any altitude with just a touch of the start button.

It's too bad they've priced it so far out of it's market. $10,000+ buys a lot of other skis. It is very fun to ride though! I only played with the RFI model, I can imagine how much better it is witht he proper powerplant now.

                                Re: Troubleshooter Quiz

Well, considering it has 4 differnt modes in which you can ride it, if you divide $10,000.00 ( you can pick them up for less than 10K MSRP) by 4, you are only paying $2500.00 ( or less) for each ski :)

I would rather have a 947 powered 3D and the versality of choosing my riding mode for 10K, than be stuck with a boring VX110 one mode ski for about 8K OTD...
But hey, that is just me. Your opinion may vary.
