  • bad starter on 96 waveraider??

    thanks again for past help!!
new problem on the other Yamaha

engine won't crank (intermittant at the end of last season) new battery 12.5vdc, (jumped with car battery to make sure) solenoid clicks, shorted across solenoid (12v direct to starter) pulls battery down to 5v when shorting contacts) 12v arc but no crank...motor not frozen (turned impeller shaft from below makes engine piston move)
tried to get to the 12v line at the starter, hands are not as small as pencils so was not able to. (sounds to me like a shorted starter)

    1. have I missed anything?

    2. how much of a pain in the butt is it to R & R that little beast???

    thanks again for your help

Two bolts hold it to the block, remove the electrical wires. Put one hand around each side of the engine and wiggle it free.
