  • Soft porn?

    G'day SBT guys.

Ive been reading your helpful and informative website for a couple of years now, and have often recieved very helpful answers to my little pwc dillemas.

Maybe I'm getting old or something. But I dont appreciate the almost naked women on your website, if I wanted to see soft porn or hardcore porn I could find it easily on the other 2 million websites that exist online (I dont really know how many websites there are), but I do know porn is a high percentage.

Im sure that people now-a-days dont (or I hope they dont) get sucked into 'soft porn' advertising. I guess what Im saying is, I doubt someone is gunna buy your engine or products based on a almost naked woman on the website.

I would like to understand sbt's point of view in this matter. I doubt it will change my opinion, but none the less would still like to know.

Im not bagging sbt or anything here, just voicing my opinion.

Thanks for an excellent well structured website, with very helpful and informative responces from pro's all the way to the back-yard boy. Pass on the knowledge I say!!

Feel free to lock this thread if it gets out of hand, its not worth upsetting multitudes.

    All the best.

    Re: Soft porn?

We certainly do appreciate your opinion, and are truely sorry if you are offended in any way. Our point of view is simply that PWCs and swimwear/bikinis most often go hand in hand, and our use of models is simply a fun way of advertising. We have received a few complaints, but so far (the past 1 1/2 years) it's been about 99.9% VERY positive feedback - so obviously we have indeed connected with our customer base.

We are certainly not in (and never want to be) in the porn business, and do not consider our Bikini models such. What we show in our advertising and on the website graphics are normal, everyday swimwear examples at most beaches. MUCH less can be found on people at most major beaches, at least here in Florida.

While we do show more risque poses (still not porn though) on our Calendar/Poster & DVD, this is a purchased product, not something everyone can see, nor something everyone HAS to see.

          Re: Soft porn?

Well maybe the man wouldn't be as much offended if TS wore his pink thong bathing suit on there with a dirtied up shirt, ;)
Now that would be scary porn, ;)
The older you get, the more your priorities change. Remember back when, you felt your only role in life was to get a woman back to your place. Well, most of us here are still young and feel that way. But if I had a choice between women and jetskis, well we all know who would win.

I think it's target marketing at its finest. I am sure that most of the people that buy engines and related parts are men. Most men like women. Most men like half naked young women even better. :emoticont

I'll take 15 premium engines please!

Oh yeah, if TS ends up in a thong on the homepage, i am never touching another ski. Ever!

LOL! I've seen TS in baggy trunks, a thong ? Well I'm glad there are 3000 miles between us ! That guy in the Evenrude commercials is bad enough!

Now as far as Kristen and the new girl Jamie goes, I appreciate what talents they bring to table. It sure beats looking at crankshafts and engines. And by alot I might add.
Consider me in the 99.9% group. I do not consider myself a perv in any way shape or form.

Sign me up for a dozen more motors, maybe SBT can get twins for 2007??

Wow, Michael73, way to stand out on that limb, buddy!

                  SBT, as for your response…

I’ve been on your site all of 4 weeks…I am currently researching skis and would readily say your website was the first I linked…it is a great site, among the best I have seen…and that is the root of your 99.9% positive response.

As for the incredibly fine oh my gosh fabulous display of female flesh you have on your home webpage :emoticonb , and scattered throughout your site, clearly that exceeds any sort of public broadcast standard. You have to admit that.

Your response seems rooted in some diplomatic objection to the word: porn. I’d respond the same way as you….none of your stuff deserves such a derogatory title.

However, having agreed with you on that, I still feel your site easily lacks public professionalism. Your stage is not the back of some shop where ‘customers are not permitted’ or the inside door of someone’s tool shed. No, you have a much bigger audience than that.

I’d like to be on your website at my workplace without fear of someone seeing something offensive. I’d like to be able to check on some parts or tech discussion without worrying about my 7 year-old walking up behind me. I don’t like the opinion my wife may get of the sport if she were to see your ‘fun advertising’…

I don’t expect much to change here, and I will still do business with you when the opportunity is there, and I will still visit your site daily for invaluable information…but, I will still be mindful of where I am when I get on your website, and I will still be embarrassed if others were to observe the site from a distance.

Eventually, I feel that will be an obstacle to your business. If not, wouldn’t the majors join right in with you?

And, if you feel all this is crud, then, sheish, why isn’t she topless yet?! :popc

My suggestion…put those pics in a gallery….get them off your main home page--or at least crop them much smaller (like your header). You can still sell the calendars and DVDs and et al. all you want…but, make it an extra step for us. I don’t think you’ll lose any business with that change…and you will probably set yourself up to be the premier website you deserve.

Thanks for the opportunity to rant…back to my ski shopping!

                      Re: Soft porn?

If I gave you the impression that I don't like to look at scantily clad women?--well, big oops on my part.

Like I said, I'm new to this site. I thought we were talking jet ski stuff here.

If we are talking beaches, then my bad. Beaches=bikinis. Amen. I'm there.

Let me know when the discussion changes to topless bars....then we can all complain about the women having too much clothes on!

                        Re: Soft porn?

                        Hello to all,

We should see the value of both sides of this discussion. It is true that you do have the ladies covered, but some do find them to be too uncovered.

I did find that you send the making of the calendar DVD with a premium engine purchase. But I would have liked an installation video better.

You have a great site here and it works very well. But you are wrong to say that 99.9 think it is OK. Most people just don’t think you would listen so they don’t tell you.

                        Chris.

                          Re: Soft porn?

                          oops...looks like we're down to 99.8%

I dont see it as porn in any way or level.Go to any boat manufacturers website and you will see bikini models on every one.So the whole watercraft industry are a bunch of perverts ? No,it goes with the sport...

                          Watersports = swimwear

I have been here before there were models on the mainpage, and I am still here.I dont even pay much attention to them.AND...My GF has seen me open this page many many times and has never commented on the models.

Now I am curious as to why some dont approve of it.Do they not like women ? Are the wives jealous ? Cant stop staring ?

Personally....I think it adds a very nice touch to the mainpage.

This is silly.. really it is.

                              Re: Soft porn?

OK, none of this is porn. Agree. That's what I wrote. Next.

No, major manufacturers of jetskis do NOT show bikini models. They show men and women in appropriate watersports gear. {commence booing} They sell jetskis, not bikini models.

The word pervert has not been used anywhere (except mike when speculating of himself). And, certainly no one has linked bikinis with a perversion!! So, quit over-reacting! Besides, we're all perverts! Don't try to convince me otherwise.

Lack of approval? No, no one said anything about not liking to look at the women....closest comment on that was by you: "don't pay much attention to them..." too bad, man. You should....good stuff.

                              It's more about tact.

Some feel SBT could improve their website by utilizing more tact. They sell jet ski engines/components...mingled with models wearing cropped tanks, cut-off shorts, and grease spread across half their breast. By 99.9% of public standards, that lacks tact.

Some feel SBT improved their website with the models wearing cropped tanks, cut-off shorts, and grease spread across half their breast. 99.8% of this forum thus far feels all is appropriate. So I say, Why not topless?

It's a decision for SBT, and I don't fault them one way or another. They have allowed for my feedback, and that is what I am doing.

Funny thing about complaints....you have to actually complain first. That is what is happeneing here. Won't change anything tonight.

javiert, silly is fun. Don't knock it.
