  • Air leak test after top-end rebuild?

The engine in my '99 GP1200 seized six weeks ago and needed a top-end rebuild. The mechanic just finished the job, but did not test the case for air leaks. He said that he doesn't have the equipment to do Yamahas.

I'm a little concerned because of what I've read on this and other forums. His diagnosois of the engine failure was that a small membrane in one of the carbs. had a dimple in it and probably caused the seizure.

Having spent a considerable amount of money on this re-build, I want to be smart about proceeding from here.

    Any suggestions?

*Most* of the time it's fine, but if at all possible find someone to pressure check it, you're right it's a lot of time and money.

Yes a problem with a carb diaphragm can easily take out a 1200.
