  • Sea doo XP Motor Hard to start New SBT motor

I just bought an SBT motor and put it in a 1997 XP. Here is the probelm when trying to start it. it roll over fast the all of a sudden it locks like its flooded then starts rolling fast again it will fire every once in a while. It has fuel/ spark and compression please help..... I got it to start one time but I had to hold the the throttle at about 1/2 to keep it running when it was running it seem to be running fine.

That sounds like a possible bad starter, where the bendix is not retracting. I would at least remove the starter and inspect it's one-way clutch, to make sure the teeth are not damaged and it operates smoothly. If that looks good I would inspect the flywheel to make sure the ring gear has not moved on the hub, and all the teeth are good.

No, the rotary would have nothing to do with it. How long does it turn over before locking? Is it the same amount everytime? Have you tried taking the plugs out and turnign the PTO by hand?

Then I'd say you missed something or didn't know what you were looking at was damaged. If it turns ok by hand, it's nothing internal.

Like everything I already mentioned. I would suggest taking it to a shop.
