Kawasaki X-2 Questions

I have recently become the owner of a 1993 Kawasaki X-2 and have a couple of questions.
On the hood of the ski There are 2 little squares that can be opened and the openings go down into the engine compartment. What are they for?
And I also want to swich it over to pre-mix and i want to know the steps for that.
Any help would be appreciated!:emoticont
