  • '97 TS Monte Carlo 770 - Internal lube?

When we hit the starter it turns over fine, but there is a godawful clanking sound. We think it's coming from somewhere down low. We noticed at the forward side of the engine was a small case area with a screw cap, when we took the cap off dad said he thinks that's how you set the timing. It kinda sounds like the noise comes from there, though, and I was wondering if there's any lube or fluid that we're supposed to put in that cap?

If not, what would be making such a horrible racket? It was out of water (using water hose for cooling), would that be it?
