  • SBT 951 Engine issues / question

    Hello
Purchased a premium engine March of 05 with 2 yr warranty. Left a message with SBT but am waiting for a call back to get a RGA number for return.

30 hrs since install / purchase problems: won't get to full RPM--surges between 5k to 6.5k never reaches full 7050 rpm (GSXL) went through raves / replaced rave solenoid control valve. Local dealer says compression is 125 and 115 and that the crank bearings are making noise.

With the warranty exchange does SBT also send new gaskets etc.. or do you need to purchase new? What / Who is the best carrier to use for shipping the unit back to SBT? What has been others exp. with warranty returns? How long from sending the engine back until you received a replacment? I see that right now they no stock on the silver 951.

    Thanks for you feedback

Re: SBT 951 Engine issues / question

It takes 1-2 weeks once we receive the return to process it and get a new one out.

If your compression is that low, obviously there is significant damage already. What caused your original engine to fail and what other repairs were done? Damage like that will always give running problems, surging would be expected.

Yes we include a free gasket set.

We suggest using Fedex or UPS.

      Thanks for the reply.

other repairs on ski done...None with the engine, when it was replaced carbs rebuilt. replaced the rave solenoid control valve, cleaned raves at the end of last season, pump maint at the begining of this season, ski fogged when it wasn't going to be used for a couple of weeks and fogged for storage. Stored with fuel / stabil seat open, drains open, always ran in fresh water and aloways ran dry when taken out of the lake, never tipped, swamped or hydrolocked.

Last year after the enigine was installed it seemed to run fine. slight hesitation on first run of the day it surged 6.5k to 7.0k for the first couple min of the day. after that it ran 7k all day long. I assumed the problem was with the raves sticking but could never get it to clear.

Took it out for the first time this year and it surged 5k to 6k and would never get above that or stabilize. its been with the dealers ever since.

      Thanks

We won't know until it gets here for inspection, but I would guess the problem to be in the fuel system. You will get a diagnosis after it arrives.
