I just picked up a matching set of 1994 Waverunner III GP's. Both were running great, except the one has an intermittent problem since I changed the spark plugs on one. What I am trying to figure out is the fact that before I replaced the plugs, when I pulled the boots, they were never fully snapped onto the plug. After a quick check of the plugs (which looked good for any 2-stoke engine), I snapped the plugs in fully, only to find that the engine would cut out before fully leaving shore. Then when restarting, it will turn over and cut out immediatey. I waited a couple minutes then the engine ran for a couple hundred feet and cut out again.
When I got her back to shore, I put the fresh plugs in (gaps checked to correct gage)......same problem. Then I realized I should pull the plug boots and put them on without fully snapping them into place. It worked.
Could anyone please tell me what the problem might be? What should I check?
Thank you,
Scott
