951 engine Stator plate/cover removal question

I have a 1998 XP Limited and was wondering if it was possible to remove the stator plate/cover to change the stator "without" removing the exhaust. I did this job before on the ski back in 2003 but, I removed the exhaust. This made the job alot more involed and a pain. I removed the exhaust in 2003 to do the update diaper (recovery envolope) on the exhaust flange above and between the carbs. I also changed out the grounded out stator.

Yes, remove the front motor mount and use a block of wood under the engine to support it.
