  • Jet pump removal problem.

I ordered my new SBT motor this morning for my GTX. I figured i get a head start on the engine removal today. I am trying to get the pump out the back the way the SBT online engine removal directions state and not having any luck. This is what i did --

1- Removed all of the bilge/water lines to the pump as outlined

2- Removed all four of the pump housing retaining nuts and washers as outlined.

I also removed the speed sensor for my speedo and the springs for the reverse gate door. I can get the pump assembly to move up and down but it will not come out . Am i missing something?? Did i forget something ??
    Thanks !!:)

I believe you need to remove the ride plate on that model also.

          Re: Jet pump removal problem.

I just did the same motor on a 95 GTX. The speed sensor bolted to the ride plate hits the bottom of the pump housing. Try removing the six screws that secure it, wiggle it out and set it aside. If thats is what you already did (not sure) then disregard.

Also, I didn't need to completely remove the pump I just loosened it up. When I unbolted the motor mounts I had plenty of room to slide the motor back and pull it out.

          Hope this helps.

I still can't remove the pump. I removed the speedo gear. I tried to get the ride plate off. The ride plate has on stuck mounting screw in it. Any other suggestions since my new motor will be here Wenesday ????

I suggest taking it to a local shop and having them take it off for you, just so nothing gets broken accidently.

                Re: Jet pump removal problem.

Any reason why i could not just put the new motor back in without removing the pump ??

I was able to slide the old motor forward toward the gas tank and pull it out. I was told that i will have to have the new motor alinged. One of the jet-pump mounting studs pulled out of the hull. I need to know what kind of epoxy to use to reinstall the stud.

                  Re: Jet pump removal problem.

Marine Epoxy. Some people choose to not do the alingment, we do not recommend it.

So i should spend the extra $75.00 to have the shop aling the new motor providing i can get the pump out???
