The most common issues with the Sea Doo's are rotten fuel lines that clog up the fuel selector valves and the internal carbureator filters. No 1998 Sea Doo should be run unless you know for a fact that the carbs are clean and the selector valve is clean. Next most common is the check valves in the accellerator pump nozzels get stuck shut and the motor develops a lag or stall hesitation when accellerating from a stop.

      Thanks for this information

I imagine the fuel lines and filters are easy to check and clean.
But what about the check valves in the accelarator pump nozzles?
Is there a way to check before buying it, or just giving it a run is more than enough to check this problem?

The nozzels are tested with the same pump we use for setting pop off pressure and testing the jetpump. Just a small hand pump will work. The nozzels are no big deal to clean if they are stuck. It would be very difficut to check them when looking at a ski to buy. If the thing hesitates on takeoff, they are probably stuck shut.

Would rebuilding the carbs accomplish what you are suggesting, or is this nozzle a different valve?

Cleaning the accellertor pump nozzels does not require doing a complete rebuild, but if your carbs need a rebuild, you should do it. I have no idea what condition your carbureators are in. But I can say this, any 1999 carbuerator probably needs to be rebuilt if it has never been rebuilt.
