I have a 1991 waverunner 650 vxr. Starts right away, but the engine races at idle. Idle screw is turned all the way out (not even touching the flange) and I have turned in the air screws to no avail. It dies if i give it throttle. The carb is brand new and not in need of rebuild. Butterfly is just slightly open and the throttle cable moves freely and returns properly. My thought is reed valves, but admittedly I know very little about 2 strokes. I opened the intake and I can see the reeds (not well) but can't see how to get them out. Does anyone have any ideas ? Is this a reed problem or something else ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
