    re: Kaw 1100

    Piston arrow points toward exhaust?

    Head gasket arrow points forward?

Looks like a good kit. Any tips on getting coordination between 3 pistons going into the cylinder during installation?

    Correct. No magic tricks :)

      Re: sbt top end kit

I posted this pic at pwctoday but didn't get much response. This is the engine I'm putting the sbt top end kit on. All three pistons seem sloppy in their bores and I'm thinking this one rocked too much and caught on the exhaust port, chipping the piston. The others seem fine except one was only 100psi compression. What do you think?

That is nothing but detonation damage - go through your fuel system and rebuild your carbs.

The plugs were BR8's in instead of the BR9's, could that have caused it?

Also, when assembling, do I use 2 stroke oil or regular motor oil to prelube the parts(cylinder and wrist pin)?

              2 stroke.

Yes, using the incorrect (hotter) plug will cause detonation.

                Re: sbt top end kit

I did come up with a bit of a trick to assemblying the top end of this triple. I cut approx. 1.5" wide strips of some flashing material I had laying around. Just long enough to go around each piston then secured with a wire tie to keep the rings compressed. Don't tighten too tight or the makeshift ring compressor won't slide down the piston. Setting the cylinder on the first piston, the compressor will slip down the piston as the rings go into the cylinder just like an auto engine except kinda backwards. Cut the tie and the flashing will come out easily.
