2 stroke reed valves how long do they last?

Hello all, I recently installed a SBT motor in my Yamaha 1100 and noted one of the reeds was a little ragged, didn't appear to be on the sealing surface (small bit of overhang).

I wondered what the service life of the reed valves are and what would the engine run like when the reeds are wearing/worn out?

They need to be perfect. You will have a loss of performance, hard starting and blow back when they get bad enough.
