  • GP 1200 Exhaust Warning Message Problem

My buddy had a SBT remanufactured short block put into his 1999 GP1200. The work was done by Steve at SJB Powersports In Webster, New York. He was in the process of running the 1st tank full of break-in fuel and he started getting an "Exhaust" warning message on the digital read-out along with a audible warning signal. He shut the ski down, checked things out like overheating, etc. and everything appeared normal. He started the ski up again and the warning kept going off with the same digital read-out saying "Exhaust" or something like that suggesting an over-heating condition.

Again, he did not feel anything was over-heated, water is running freely through the ski when the engine is on, but he is afraid to continue running the ski thinking he may be damaging it.

Could this be a faulty heat sensor on the exhaust? Maybe it was not put back with conductive grease or something like that.

Please help. He really wantes to get the ski remaned engine broken in and enjoy the rerst of the summer on it.

    Thanks,
    Bill Nowak:beer

There is no Exhaust warning, only TEMP. He needs to check all his cooling lines for blockages all the way back to the pump. Get a Service manual and it gives test procedures for the sensor itself which may be bad.

I had a similar problem and the repair shop pulled out the cat converter, replaced it with a D-Plate and replaced the sensor (which is only there to protect the converter). I have had no problem since.

That is completely non-related, you have a different engine.
