  • $25 for a fuel filter???

I was at the marine supply store today and they had an inline marine fuel filter for $5.00. Does anyone use these instead of the $25 Yamaha filter? Is there any reason to use the Yamaha filter instead?

The OEM design has the benfit of traping water, where simple flow through fuel filters do not.

I know....I paid $23 for one just a couple of weeks ago at my local dealer! It's a cheap looking piece of plastic, but I guess it does the job.

Who is WSM? Are their filters as good as Yamaha's?

They are an aftermarket parts supplier. I have never seen one to compare.

I have never had a problem with Yamaha filters, and never minded the once a year $25 or so.

Go to Advance Auto.. gas filter section..they have the identical filter for 3-4 bucks.. they are same.. just no Yamaha name on it.. i took a hammer and busted them open..(not easy) and they are just the same.. i've used the filter since 96 and have 2 skis and no problems.. as far as catching water, well ok..they may.. this filter though has the same exact set up.. but.. if you think water and gas or going to stay apart in any of these filters in a ski doing 40-50 and jumping about like a jet ski.. well.. i just don't buy it.. ck out Advance and you will see what i mean.
                best of luck.

They are not the same - the automotive filters use a finer mesh, designed for use in high pressure, electric pump fuel systems. They can restrict flow from teh low pressure vaccuum pumps om pWCs. Do not run an automotive filter on a PWC, some will be restricted enough to lean out.
