  • 1998 Sea Doo GTX Starter Replacement

I have a 1998 SeaDoo GTX and the starter went out. Is it difficult to change the starter yourself. I was told by a mechanic or two that you have to unbolt the engine and tilt it. I can't even see the starter but its down there somewhere. Then one regular Joe like me on a forum said he did it himself and it wasn't too bad....it just took about half a day. He had to buy a special allen head socket for the exhaust manifold but its better than paying 400.00 labor. Money I do not have.

    Thanks for any responce......

It's not a hard job, It's time consuming. Get a factory repair manual if you are working on your own machine, It's worth its wait in gold. I dont mean to sound negative in any way, but any one who repairs their own watercraft and does not spend a little money on a good manual probable should not be repairing the machine themself. :beer

To add to that, don't buy a Clymer's manual.. Buy an actual OEM seadoo manual. You can even get the CD's off of Ebay for dirt cheap.

I,ve got many Sea-Doo tech up dates that are wrong , then a year later they correct it, But how many techs got screwed up on a job because of that. Countless. O' but remember sea-doo doesn't make mistakes they are perfect.

I never said I was perfect, But Joe St.Louis still beleives that he is!

I know this is no longer B.G. and I guess you are unaware of my pedigree....... Talk to G.P. or E.B. and find out!
