  • HELP PLEASE - Sucked up rope - Engine is not running well

Hey hopefully someone can offer me some guidance..

Last weekend while I was loading my sea doo (2000 RX) onto my trailer - my rope fell under neat and went into the intake.

I took the grate off when I got home and got all of the rope out. (I Think)

I then tried starting it and it sounded perfectly normal

Today I took it out for the first time and it ran fine running at idle for several minutes - When I went for full throttle I immediately could tell I didn't have the same power as normal.

After a minute or two of full throttle it bogged out on me and then would start up and bog out.

It eventually ran so I could get it back to my trailer, but it was very loud and wouldn't go over 5mph or so.

Any advice would be appreciated - Thanks!

Inspect so see of you still have some debris or damage in the pump area...

do you, by chance have a lot of water in the hull?

If the pump area had debris in it still would this cause the engine to bog down, run rough and make an over all louder sound when running?

You may have bent the drive shaft, remove it and inspect it.

Re: HELP PLEASE - Sucked up rope - Engine is not running well

Funny thing is it ran fine in idle for about 5 minutes as I exited the Marina

and ran for about 3 minutes fast wide open (Although I could tell something was a little bit off)

Then suddenly stalled and when I restarted the ski it then ran rough

Any other advice would be great

I will check the pump and driveshaft tonight.

            Thank You

Re: HELP PLEASE - Sucked up rope - Engine is not running well

A bent driveshaft can break a motor mount, or cause excessive vibrations with the motor, which can then cause an exhaust component (usually a bolt) to break. That causes exhaust gasses to leak into the hull, therefor starving the motor of needed air, making the ski run worse each minute, eventually making the motor stop.

              One of many, many possibilities.

Re: HELP PLEASE - Sucked up rope - Engine is not running well

dsolie, You must have seen it all. Your answer reminds me of a problem I had with my mastercraft ski boat. A friend was using it and ran it aground on a sand bar. It idled back to the dock fine. The next day we took it out and were running at full throttle for about 3-4 minutes and the rpm started to drop and it was making a lot of noise. It almost went down to idle. I got out of the seat without shutting down the engine or putting it in neutral and lifted the engine cover. There was a lot of smoke and as soon as the smoke cleared, the boat took off like a rocket, throwing me to the back of the boat. Luckily I was able crawl to the front and kill the engine before we hit anything. Anyway, what happened was the sand clogged the exhaust riser killing the cooling water flow and the fiberglass muffler overheated and started to smoulder, generating a lot of smoke and choking the engine.
