  • Proper Break-in for new SBT FX140 4 stroke?

    Hey Dudes,

I couldn't find any sticky or tech article on break in procedures for new SBT FX140 four stroke engine. I just purchased a 2003 FX140 that has a remanufactured SBT motor with no hours on it.

    Thanks......
    Just tryin' to help out.

    I ride: XL800, XL1200 Ltd, FX140

No extended wide open runs for the first 10 hrs and change oil after the first 10 hrs. It will consume oil for the 1st 10 -20- hrs then consumption will decrease. These engines run hot so it will use a little oil. Always check oil level before you ride. Vary rpms for the 1st 10 hrs up and down and don’t ride at any consistent speed, Use fresh fuel and we recommend using 20w-50 motor oil. The first 10 hr. oil change is very important, don’t forget to do it.

Also make sure to properly check the oil with eng running not off or you will overservice.

Never change oil with out the filter getting changed, I guess I take it for granted thinking every one should know this.

I understand, not everybody does, another confusing thing is the recomended oil, 20W50 in another SBT post it says recomended oil for Yamaha 4-strokes is 10W40 or is it 10W40 in an OEM engine and 20W50 in a SBT rebuild?
