  • XLT1200 PV Spits and Pops

I've got a reman engine from SBT in the ski but there is some popping or slight misfiring at idle and it seems to miss running at low rpms. 1st tank past the break-in period and running Klotz 40:1 Premix. I haven't really held throttle open for too long, but top speed is around 48mph. Is this typical for a 2 stroke or should acceleration be fluid?

Re: XLT1200 PV Spits and Pops

I have owned two XL1200 Ltd with pv engine. Anytime I had spits and pops it was carburetor issues. If you have not done so already, I would remove carbs, dismantle and clean them with can of carb cleaner, and blow out all holes with air compressor. If any of the rubber diaphragms are badly wrinkled, or if clear diaphrams are milky white and not clear, I would purchase rebuild kits from SBT.

Other than that, sometimes the extra oil used when breaking in 2 stroke will cause plugs to foul.

And if you still have cat con, get rid of it and replace with d-plate. An old cat con will cause spits and pops.
    Just tryin' to help out.

    I ride: XL800, XL1200 Ltd, FX140
