  • Where to buy a new thermostat for Polaris? Should I?

Cab someone tell me where I can buy a replacement thermostat for a polaris 700cc engine? I searched thru SBT's catalog and found nothing. I have read that you can just ditch them, but am not sure if that is the best idea. I took it apart, and it seemed fine. Could I just put it in some water and boil it to see if it opens? Anyone know what temp they should open at?

According to the SBT technical support you can remove the thermostat and operate the engine with no ill effects......................

Also, according to another website you can remove the plunger and spring from the thermostat housing on 1050 models(not sure on the 700s though???) for increased cooling system efficiency - http://www.groupk.com/p1050.htm

Here's a link to a service manual for your machine -
http://pwcmanuals.shorturl.com/ ................according to that manual the thermostat is 140 F.................

They both can be re-moved, thermo and pressure valve, but when you flush your engine the water out hose from the water manifold needs to be pinched off other wise all the water you are trying to flush the engine with will go right out the back of the boat and not into the engine.

I put the thermostat in some water on the stove, and it opened up at about 140 degrees, so i stuck it back in. I got about an hour and a half on the new engine today, and everything seems fine (1/2 hour increments). I am quite happy with my purchase from SBT so far.
