  • 1999 Polaris SLTH 700, Spark plugs, Oil, Impeller questions

    Just bought a 1999 Polaris SLTH 700. I have a few questions.

    1. The owner was using BR8ES plugs but the manual calls for BPR8ES. I have put BPR8ES plugs in now. QUESTION - Any harm in using BR (non-projected) instead of the BPR (projected) ?

    2. I forgot to ask what oil they were using. QUESTION - Is the Polaris 2-stroke oil ok (I think it's called a synthetic blend) ?

    3. Would a Skat-Trak impeller do anything for me?

I got a good deal on this jet ski and now I have 3. 1994 Sea-Doo SPI W/SBT engine, 1996 Yamaha Waveraider and 1999 Polaris SLTH.

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

    Forgot to ask,

    1. Which Carbs do I have CDK or CDK2?

    2. What should my compression be. We are about 2500 ft above sea level.

CDK 2 carbs, bpr8es or br8es will be fine, all of the polaris 2 stroke oils will work well, compression about 135 psi and the nu-jet impellers that came stock are great and an aftermarket scat will also work well.

        SBT Tech,

Thanks for the quick reply !

I checked compression with a gauge I got at schucks. I know some will cringe for using a cheap compression tester. I kept one plug in, full throttle and cranked about 5 times. I got about 115 in both cylinders. Does my elavation of 2500 ft make a difference? Do you know what testers are better?

There is no cavitation with the current impeller, just wondering if an aftermarket would improve anything. Sounds like the stock impeller is ok. The ski really has great power and turns better than my 96 Yamaha Wave Raider 701BU with a 700cc and single carb.

        Thanks again.

Sounds like your ski is running good, compression is a bit low but that could be your gauge saying that. If your compression was too low the ski would be hard to start.
