how do I crank engine without starting to spread fogging oil thru out engine

2003 xpdi - manual states to spray fogging oil in spark plug holes and hold throttle down wait 2 seconds and hit start button engine should crank and beep every second to indicate drowned mode. Manual says to put lanyard on with carb or rfi model but not 947 di . What am I doing wrong TIA

You have to have the lanyard on in order to crank the motor, regardless of the ski.
