  • seadoo gtx,rfi 1998 backfire

    hi, everyone i have a 1998 gtx,rfi it did great !!! i replace the oil pump cable and the engine will not start now. it backfire very hard when i try to start it any help !!! thanks

    Ray,

    Backfiring usually means 2 things on an RFI;

    1) Timing is out (when you replaced the oil pump, did you remove and re-install the rotary valve? Did you time it when you put it back on??

    2) Rotary gear is sheared and the crank is out of index. This happens when the oil bath in the rotary cavity becomes dry. did you drain the oil cavity at all? The oil bath is supplied by 2 oil lines, one beneath the oil pump and the other on the opposite side of the block.

      dan,

      yes i remove the rotary valve but i place it in the same position, i don't know if that could be the problem. if so how to time it .
