  • Rotary valve cover

I took a look at the cover last night and it has a very thin scratch not groove on the cover. It also has a small pock mark on it. Should I be concerned about this?

what happens if it is not totally flat, as described in this post? does it miss or run bad. what are the signs of this problem. I ask because I just put my new SBT motor in and the rotory valve cover had a very minor circular scratch. I ran the break in this past weekend and it seemed to miss at the low idle speeds but at 50% and 90% throttle seems fine.???

It can lead to poor startign and running, but more importantly catcth the rotary valve or prevent the proper oil film on the cover and valve - and the brass gear will strip, requiring a new motor. That's why we stress in the Install Manual that the cover needs to be perfect.
