  • 951 failure

I'm sending some pictures of a 951 piston to tech support. The circlips did not jump out. does this look like water caused it?

Well, it's kinda hard to tell, because it was obviously ridden for some time after it initially seized. It very well could be from detonation, yes.

What are the cirumstanses of the failure?

Someone else did the rebuild, and I installed it last summer. the owner said he was running at half throttle, and it just started running funny. I'm not sure what he did. He didn't say he had had any other trouble with it before. I put about 2 hours on it with no problems before he picked it up. I can't see where any water lines were leaking, and I rebuilt the carbs when I installed it. I tried to talk him into an SBT engine but he wanted to save money.

      Thanks

Any other thoughts on what could have caused the initial failure?

        Thanks

I really can't tell, the pistons are beat up so much from running after the initial failure.
