How can i make My GTI 2002 go faster?

I have a 2002 GTI with a 717 single carb engine. I was wondering if there was anything that i can do to make a little faster?

Open Flame arrestors, re-jetting the carbs and upping the impeller will give you a few MPH. More than that (pipe, timing mods etc) and you loose reliability FAST.

Where can i get an upgrade for the flame arrestor? Any specifics on the re-jetting and a place to get them? What impeller you suggest? Thanks
