  • 787 exhaust leak

if a motor is very noisy and fumes appear in hull, is is likely to be exhaust or is it possible to have a leak in the crankcase? I had a Kawasaki 650 return from the sea with a hole in the crankcase (lemon-sized!!) and it was running ok but LOUD!

Usually exhaust fumes in the hull mean an exhaust leak. Steam in the hull means a water leak.

can't believe it, went to examine "exhaust leak" and the crankcase is broken around the counter balance shaft!!!! the smoke was probably actually grindings (dust) from the bearing. not all that loud and the engine was running great (on land-no torque).whole new ball game for a unit I thought was close to delivery.
