  • 1999 zxi 1100 rough idle

Hey, just put by 99 zxi 1100 in the water for a test after I installed my SBT engine yesterday (late November in NJ weather). I had a very rich mixture in the tank, at least 25:1, if not 20:1 since its the first tank. It idled kinda rough for the first 10 minutes, and would stall as soon as I gave it throttle. After it warmed up (unseasonably 66 degrees in NOV), ski ran very well. Took the plugs out and they were wet and black with oil. Could too much oil in the gas cause this idle problem, and the cold stall?

Yes it can. Running too much oil can be as damaging as running not enough oil in some cases. Too much oil will make the engine run hot because your air fuel ratio changes, yes you will have more oil in the mix but less combustable fuel to burn to air ratio to keep the engine cool. If you run a heavy mix you should adjust your mixture screws so you dont run too lean.
