  • Great xL1200 ltd. no problems til this year.

    Alysonrn@sbcglobal.net

Hi Everyone. I have a 99 xlt1200 with all kinds of weird problems. Cat converter broke. Fixed that with the D plate. Then the carb filters were plugged so I cleaned them out. Now when I hit the gas the boat leaps out of the water as soon as the tach hits 7000 it loses power back to 6000. It stays slow for a couple seconds then screams off again. It seems to be a timed event staying at slow 6000 for just a couple sec then up to 7000 again. Could I have a bad chip? No warning buzzer or lights. Plugs look good but idk. Any help would be great
    Thank you Doug

After I returned from the lake and inspected the plugs further beyond the fact that they were not fouled.they are all pure white. No reside on the electrode on any level. What do you start the resetting at after the D plate mod?

Sounds like its a little on the lean side, remove the high and low block off plugs covering the high and low speed screws and open them up a little more. Did you replace the fuel filter on the ski?

Filter is new. Doesn't seem to be a high speed screw. The main jet leads right into the center or the venturi. I drilled down about .080 into the plug for where the screw would be. Still didn't break thru.

People remove the caps all the time, search on line on how far they drill ito the cap to remove them.

Do u have a link? I found the original equipment manual. It does not list the adjusting screw. I found he manual for the mikuni bn44 and they show the high speed screw out in the open with no cap.
