  • Stator Lube?

Bear with me, I'm fairly new to 2 strokes and watercraft so this may be a really dumb question. I'm currently working on a '99 900 STX and just noticed that it has a plastic plug on top of the generator cover. Should there be some kind of lubricant in there? It's currently bone dry inside that compartment when I take the plug out and look in, but the fact that there is a plug there to begin with would make me suspect that something should go in it.

What, if anything, should go in there?

    Thanks!

No oil in the front cover, its for seeing the timing mark on the flywheel.

ill add with tech support that it should be neat and clean and dry when you look in there...no water or rust, if there is you've got water intrusion into the front cover, common problem on a lot of skis. either a o-ring problem or stator harness or timing plug leak.

Yes things need to be dry unless you are working on a Kawasaki ultra, then you will see some oil present.
