I'm getting ready to rebuild carbs on my 2000 yam. Xl800. does anyone no what my pop off pressure should be?? also should I even remove the high & low speed needles saving having to re-adjust them?

50-55 should work and leave the needles as they are.

It can be done through the fuel inlet nipple.

i bought this ski from a good friend knowing it was topping out around 37 mph. has 180 hrs. with compression 125 both. i rebuilt carbs including needles & seets.pop off set to 53. the check valves on one of the fuel pumps were trashed .new sbt power valves installed with waveatr coupler(spring loaded with no play) I ended up just pulling the engine. I found it much easier to work on.Just started up! SOUNDS good. starts very easy.can't wait to test tomorrow. I will post with final results.

Re: 2000 Yamaha Xl800 pop off pressure

Hit the lake today. Starts up great! ski ran 44mph (spedo) 47 GPS. Seems to be missing just a little top end. Rpm's on the bar style display (not real accurate) look to be 6900-no more than 7000 .No real change from 3/4 throttle and full throttle. Not sluggish and no dead spots just no difference. This ski used to go easily in the 50's. I didn't change high or low speed settings during rebuild. Any thoughts appreciated.

How old is the fuel in it?

A month for half of a tank the other half is new.it does have sta-bil in it as this was going to be my last ride this year.is it possible that that's all I'm going to get out of this 13 year old ski?

If compression is good then maybe the power valves are not opening properly, this can kill rpm's too.
