  • 1998 ZXI 1100 Lazy Throttle

1998 zxi 1100, will not pull from a stop out of the hole, the low end throttle response is lazy and must be triggered a few times to be responsive. Its only in low rpms and the throttle is fine in mid speed/full speed... A good comparison would be driving a car with a worn clutch and it takes a an extra second to respond and for the power to kick in.. All cylinders are running great compression. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,

Re: 1998 ZXI 1100 Lazy Throttle

A 1998 ZXi 1100 has the CV carbs on it, so there is no accelerator pump. These carbs are reknowned for being impossible to tune/tweak, and many advise looking for an older set of CDKII triple carbs from an older ZXi 900. This is what I did, along with a full rebuild with Keihin OEM kits, (do NOT use aftermarket, and DO NOT rebuild the fuel pumps - leave them alone with stock diaphragms) After tuning properly, and adding a 2nd pulse line into the crank for the 2nd fuel pump, all my holeshot problems went away on a 98 and 2001 ZXi 1100. Just MAKE SURE when you get the user set if carbs that they DO come with the accelerator pump. There are alot of them that didn't, and while it may be better than CV carb, still not that holeshot you are after.

The other problem is that is very difficult to find the diaphragm for the accelerator pump, if the one you get is hard or cracked. You can cross reference a Polaris model and use that or get a diaphram for an STX and grind about 2mm off the shaft of it.
