  • Need help diagnosing a problem with my 99 STX 900

It will start and idle just fine but as soon as I hit the throttle it bogs down and will not accelerate (neither in the water nor on the hose)

It ran fine a week prior to developing this problem.

Carbs are in good shape and I actually swapped them out with the carbs from another STX 900 that is running correctly and the problem persisted.

Did a compression test and each cylinder is right at 100psi.

I opened the e-box and there are no signs of corrosion or lose wires.

I replaced the plugs and removed the plug wire ends and cut the wires back about 1/4in, cleaned them and reinstalled.

The digital multifunction meter doesn’t work, but it hasn’t worked for a while now so I doubt it has anything to do with this problem.

Where do I go from here?

Here is a quick video of what its doing…

I also took off the carbs and intake and checked the reeds… they look good.

And I tried disconnecting the ambient air sensor and exhaust sensor and there was no difference.

Did you ever figure this out? I had similar issues.
