  • 2002 kawasaki 900 sts running poorly

I have a 2002 kawasaki 900 sts. Bought ski with a blown engine and replaced with sbt rebuilt engine. Ran fine during break in and about a gas tank after break in. Blocked of oil pump and premixed with recommendations from sbt tech support. By the third tank of gas it started losing and regaining power. It might go 50mph or 20 mph and never over 5000 rpms in water. Out of water seemed to run great. In the water it idles fine but can smell gas and when i hit throttle it boggs. i pulled spark plugs and # 1 and 3 looks good, but #2 is dry and a little black. On the original engine the #2 piston had a hole. Not sure if a carb rebuild kit is the answer. Could use some help i am afraid i will blow new engine
