  • 2001 Yamaha Xl800 cavitation issue

Hi the story starts running waverunner in salt water. Flushed out the engine right away. Did not know the o-rings in the Midshaft let salt water in the spline area. Me and my girl took it out 6 months after sitting. was cavitated real bad and would not go over 12 miles hour. took apart found the midshaft to be bad. Lesson learn. Bought the midshaft bearings and shaft for inpellar from sbt and replaced. After that still have cavitation issues but after about 13 miles a hour the plane over and took off. The engine reved up the like it was trying to push the impellar hard. Pulled the pump apart again and saw some scratches on the wear plate. Replaced still the problem remained. Any ideas.

Check impeller to wear ring clearance. Should be less than 0.040".
    Check seals on pump shoe.
