  • Pump removal

I am trying to replace the impellor on my 96 gsx and I can't get the pump housing off. It moves a little and seems loose but won't come out. Am I missing something or do I just need to keep trying until it frees up?
    Thanks for the help.

Keep pulling. They stick pretty good.

Did you remember to remove the water lines in the hull?

Yes, I removed the lines and tried to pry it off but it is only plastic and I did not want to force it. If I pulled any harder I felt I would have broken something. The manual shows a puller that can be used. Is it common to NEED this puller? I have put it back together and have decided to take it in to have the impeller changed. After it is pulled off is it reasonable to think I would be able to do it next time or are some just that hard to come off all the time?

Have them use the neoprene seal this time. With the neoprene seal it will almost fall out.

What is the alternative? Do they just use permatex or something?

Someone used silicone on the mountimg surface in lieu of the neoprene seal. Probably did not have one handy.

You can easily make a pump puller from a 2x4.

When re-installing the pump using a neoprene seal, you only need silicone around the three fittings.
