  • cracked carbon fiber ring

Just got finished installing all new and driveline components and the new carbon fiber ring has cracked in 2 places. What could have caused this, is it possible I tightened the clamp too tight? That whole area get exremely hot (I fighured it would) and I see some powder like substance on the warering.

Only for about 5 seconds while I hooked up the hose, I have a quick connect.

Would it be benaficial to change over to the older bearing setup? It cost a little less than a new carbon ring and Oring collar.

Definately not. The old style beraing carrier is a maintence nightmare.

Just buy a new carbon ring, install it and be done with it. Do not lubricate it.

Thanks Bill, any idea what may have caused it to crack? Also should I replace the metal collar as that was the only part I didn't replace. It had minor pitting on the ring side.

Ichange my carbon ring to the seal carrier which is better, I only need to change seals and bearing and goes again, but changing that carbon ring is a nigth mare due it gets stuck the little circlip, so I change it and it has done a real good job, as long as I grease the fitting every time I get it out.

I guess it must have been heat because it was pretty hot. Never had the problem before, started it as if I was flushing the motor. The engine was just aligned so I don't think that was it. I'll just replace it and be more careful next time.

                  Thanks

i cut 2 pieces of wood, pull back the drive shaft and place the blocks between the pto and carrier. hold the blocks in place and have someone push in on the drive shaft. works good.

also put a little lube were the c clip and carrier meet.(make sure not to get any on the ring and carrier surfaces)

i'll get the specs for the wood.
