Problem solved....it was over oiled.........after 3 sets of plugs on one tank of gas, it is running better. Now to the tuning stage. Still a little sluggish at low rmp, nothing a little tuning and fresh plugs won't fix.

Thanks for all the opinions guys....much appreciated.

Steve, after reading this post, I concur, you suck pretty **** good, hahaha.
Glad to see you found your solution. I had the problem with a bad valve also. I took one off a 96xp to replace it on my 98xpl. Easier to work with then the ones they have on there.

problem was guys..........i had several little issues going on, and i could not pinpoint it.

Yeah, i guess i am an idiot, most would have had it fixed in a day......oh well, time to hang up the idea of knowing anything about PWCs, cause i sure the hell don't know jack.

              Yeah, it's me again.

It ran fine the other day. I took it out today started it on the trailor in the water, it backfired and took about 30 seconds to fire up.

Ok it idled fine as usuall, but when i went to hit the gas......it just stumbled like it was flooding itself out with oil. Yanked the plugs, both are clean on the rim but total black on the center part.

Is there anything i can run through the fuel system to clean them lines? This is a sporadic thing. Should i just replace all the lines and rebuild the carbs? Can my timing be off(thus the backfire)?

I'm running out of ideas. I ran a tank and a half through it and it was ok, just sluggish cause i did not get all the old gas out.

Finally got a chance to monkey with it again.

                      From the start.

                      1. ran it on the hose for 20 miniutes, smoking like a chimney, irratic idle, seemed to be missing.

                      2. took it to the lake, backed it in, ran it for another 20 miniutes, cleaning the plugs twice....smoking like a chimney again.

                      3. Cleaned the plugs again and took it out, had to feather it to get it going....finally did and it ran like a raped ape. Went around the lake and had excellent response at mid and high rpms.

                      4. Idled down and tryed to get it going, could not get it going.....cleaned the plugs again, got it going again by feathering the throttle.

                      5. Did the same, WOT for about 20 miniutes, idled down again, and same thing.....would not go.

I have good mid and high rpm response when i get it going, but it seems to foul the plugs out at low and idle.....

I have said before, imixed too much break in oil off the bat, but i have ran 2 tanks through. I have a new oil pump, could it be injecting too much oil(it is adjusted properly, 2 marks line up).

Needles and seats would not cause this, would they, the excessive oil?

                      Please help

                      Oh, as of now.....lows 1 1/4.....highs 0

another thing, oil is blowing out of my mag rave valve

One last thing, the carbs were rebuilt last year and worked fine....this is a new sbt motor that i got last fall(warranty exchange). I have double and triple checked everything, minus a compression test, but i can't see that being the problem, i hope.I just installed it this spring, and have had nothing but problems with it.

I did not alter anything since removing the old engine and putting the new one in.

No oil blowing out the plug holes, but i'm starting to think it's an inner crank seal or the rings are not seated and i'm getting excessive blow by.

Too bad the warraty expired, guess i'll be paddling it this summer.

OH, and i get an occasional backfire.

do a leak down test , that will tell you if the innerseals are ok or not in afew min .if not the seals its in your carbs .

take both lines off you oil tank { rotory bath lines }, block one off then put a pump on the other and pump it to 5 to 10 psi and let it sit , if it holds the psi your seals are fine . you can do the same for the whole motor if you have the block offs for the carbs . but i dont think you need to go that far yet .
