can a flywheel out of a 99 or later 951 still work on a 98 951?i have read they changed the ignition system in 99 but i thought you could use the same flywheel but had to just replace the magneto.

There isn't a direct model year change over. The part number is stamped on the flywheel, or you can look at the magnet layout - as long as they match, you can use it.

I am pretty sure 99 is when they went to a set up to fire spark plugs individually instead of both at the same time, so no, 99 would not work in 98 unless you changed over the pick-up and MPEM as well.

the flywheel will work, but the magnet hub will not. the 99 has too many lumps on it.

If you are using 98 hub on 99 f/wheel, mark the pickup lump position in relation to the flywheel key slot and duplicate on the 99 f/wheel. The factory locator hole is different.

If the hub is broken on your ski, you can use a hub off an 800 as they are the same.
